I miss you every day. There is not a day goes by when you are not in my thoughts. You have a
beautiful Grandaughter, Alex, she is such a McQueeney, you would have been very proud of her.
Miss you so much, love you forever.

Olive was a very proud Mum of 5 children: Sharon, Danny, Ricky, Jane and Stella. Grandma to Nathan,
Abigail, Sherry, Hayley, Tim and Alexandra.

Olive worked hard all her life, had many good friends, was very proud of her children and
grand-children. She had the most wicked sense of humour and enjoyed a good social life. Olive is
very sadly missed by all of her family and friends.

I hope you're keeping everyone laughing in paradise as you did here on Earth!
Much love, Lucy x0x0x0x

Today in my garden
I planted a tree.
A tree of heaven
Thats what it shall be.
Each day i shall watch it.
Grow tall and strong.
Each day i shall ask
What went wrong?
My tree of heaven
Will see me through
My tree of heaven
Was planted for you.

Olive

You were my "other" Mum...whether you liked it or not!! LOL!!

I spent so many happy times with you and your family...and shared so many giggles, when I had tears rolling down my face.

The stories you used to tell us when we were in bed at night, and the songs you used to sing to Jane, Stell & me when we were all cosily tucked up in bed. Songs and stories we'd heard many times....and loved everytime we heard them!!

I loved the feeling that I was part of your family; playing card games like "Queenie" with Dan, Rick, Jane & Stell - laughing at the classless comedies like "Dad's Army" and "Morecame & Wise".

Nights when you'd been out working, you'd come home and do a sort of "roll call" to make sure everyone was in before locking the front door for the night.

Me & Jane doing the cleaning and ironing to earn a few bob for our very special week-ends!! Heehee!!

I have so many great memories of you all - too many to write here in one go!

You were a great Mum to all your kids...and to me, your adopted "other daughter."

I love and miss you dearly. I hope you have found yourself a cozy spot in heaven with some of your family and friends, who are no doubt roaring with laughter at your unique sense of humour!

Craftsmen bring music to Ma'am

27/ 9/2000

A BAND of Salford craftsmen is bringing music to the Queen's ears.

Staff at McQueens Musical Instruments have just finished an order of 13 handmade ceremonial state trumpets for the Household Cavalry, famous for the changing of the guard at Buckingham Palace.

And the company's five workers, based in a former pub in Pendlebury, form the only regimental military band instrument-maker in the country.

Owner Rick McQueeney travelled to London to personally hand over the latest delivery to the Cavalry's regimental quartermaster at Hyde Park Barracks.

The highly-embossed silver-plated instruments were handmade using traditional methods over a six-week period by two 64-year-old craftsmen who have a total of 100 years experience in the trade between them.

The firm came close to shutting down in the early 90s, when they had no orders from the Ministry of Defence and the government were considering importing instruments from Taiwan.

Olive you'd be so proud of Ricks connections with The Queen!! xxx

Trumpeter honoured for saving heritage

22/10/2001

THE SAVIOUR of a city's brass bands has been honoured.

Eighty-one-year-old Jack Clayton, who was taught by his father to play the cornet at the age of eight, has kept the stirring music alive in his home city of Salford.

As colliery bands throughout Lancashire became extinct, he has led the Windsor Youth Band for more than 30 years and has taught 2,000 children how to play.

Jack, a great-grandfather of Charles Street, Pendleton who has had 66 years invovlement in brass bands has been given the Mayor's Citizen Award for his commitment to music.

In the early 70s he twice took Windsor to London to play in the National Brass Finals. Jack said ''We finished up as also rans but it was being good enough to get to the finals that was the great achievment of the youngsters.''

He and his band played a fanfare at the launch of the Austin Allegro car in Trafford Park in the 70s and he has staged concerts for churches, schools and charities free of charge.

Jack said ''I am very surprised to get this award. I still play a little myself. There's just enough puff left inside me to play a cornet or a tenorhorn. There are very few band members at present but I am hoping to rally enough to play at the Remembrance Day service in Salford.''

As a youngster Jack played with the Pendleton Public, Pendleton Old and Eccles Borough brass bands.

He joined the army and served in the D-Day Normandy landings and at Arnhem and in Norway and Palestine. After the war he took up playing again with the Salford Silver, Prestwich Borough and Irwell Old bands.

In 1969 the Windsor band were on the brink of extinction and he asked if he could have the instruments and library of music and would find some local children to teach them to play. He has been with the band ever since.

Rick McQueeney of McQueens Musical Instruments in Pendlebury owes his own success to Jack. Rick said: ''It was Jack who got me my first job when leaving school in an instrument repair shop.

''My company is now the sole manufacturer of bugles in the UK and I currently have contracts with the Ministry of Defence to maintain all of our military regimental bands. None of this could have been possible without the assistance or knowledge of Jack Clayton.''

For Olives Family...

Death is nothing at all,
I have only slipped into the next room
I am I and you are you
Whatever we were to each other, that we are still.
Call me by my old familiar name,
Speak to me in the easy way which you always used
Put no difference in your tone,
Wear no forced air of solemnity or sorrow
Laugh as we always laughed at the little jokes we enjoyed together.
Play, smile, think of me, pray for me.
Let my name be ever the household world that it always was,
Let it be spoken without effect, without the trace of shadow on it.
Life means all that it ever meant.
It it the same as it ever was, there is unbroken continuity.
Why should I be out of mind because I am out of sight?
I am waiting for you, for an interval, somewhere very near,
Just around the corner.
All is well.
